Lykan Hypersport By W Motors – $3.4M Super Car

The Lykan Hypersport has been unveiled at the 2013 Qatar motor show as a super exclusive super car built by W Motors selling and for $3.4 million, aimed at rich buyers in the Middle East wanting exclusivity.

Until now, everyone who is anyone had to buy a Veyron, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Koenigsegg or Bentley and have it customised to be different.

However, W Motors are now making the most exclusive and expensive super cars in the world in downtown Dubai. They are marketing it as a genuine Arab supercar built in the Middle East by Arabs (with help from some Italians) for Arabs.

W Motors was the brainchild of Ralph R Debbas and Sari El Khalil. It was originally set up in Beirut but they now operate from Dubai. This was a good move because more supercars are sold there than anywhere else in the world.

But don’t think that if you’re an American or Russian billionaire you’ll be able to get hold one of these. To keep them super exclusive the company has said that they will be making just seven cars. The CEO of W Motors said “This is the first Arab car and we are choosing our customers very carefully, we want all the cars to go to Arabs”.

But don’t worry if you miss out on the first batch of Lykan Hypersports. W Motors say they will be releasing a range topping Lykan supersport version later in the year. Although again this will be highly exclusive so don’t expect more than a handful to be made.

Now when you’re spending $3.4 million you’re going to not only expect exclusivity, luxury but performance as well. W Motors are claiming that the rear wheel drive Lykan Hypersport will be in the same performance bracket as the Bugatti Veyron Super Sports. It is powered by a mid-mounted twin turbo flat six engine (Porsche origin maybe??) generating 750 bhp. They claim it will be able to go from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62mph) in just 2.8 seconds and have a top speed of 395 km/h (245 mph).

But no matter how much the engine and running gear costs even if the engine has gold leaf on it and in the engine bay and a carbon fibre chassis, $3.4 million is still a lot of money. Consider the 2013 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse, its sophistication, pedigree and 1200 bhp is only $2.5 million. So obviously there has to be something extra, and there is. The interior features Gold stitched leather and platinum surfaces and what W motors are calling a “Virtual Holographic Display”.

The LED headlights provide the sort of bling you might expect from a rappers car, being set in white gold surrounds and encrusted with diamonds. To make your car a bit different from the other Lykan Hypersports, you can have your choice of rubies and sapphires or emeralds peppered throughout the car depending upon the colour choice.

And just in case that’s not enough you will also receive a limited edition Cyrus Klepcy watch worth $200,000 and of course a 24/7 concierge service.

The styling of the Lykan Hypersport is very angular and aggressive. It is looks a bit like the Lamborghini Aventador but also from some angles the Audi R8. The makers say that “V” shaped creases and angles in the design of the body represent the Arab number “7″. This is considered to be a lucky number, not only for the buyer but also the seller. The theme of the number seven is also why there are only seven cars being made.

Maybe there should be a disclaimer with each car which says “Investments can go down as well as up”. Whether this becomes the ultimate top Trumps car remains to be seen but for now it is the ultimate rich man’s bling machine.
