Adele recently announced she would be taking some time off from the music career to concentrate on her family after the recent birth of her son.
But she needn’t worry about paying the bills during her downtime. According to accounts filed for her company Melted Stone Ltd, she is sitting on a £10.2 million ($15.3m) cash pot. As if that wasn’t enough she still has a further £4.6 million ($6.9m) due in royalties, that works out at £41,000 ($61.5k) per day !.
This embarrassment of riches is mostly down to her second album 21. In the two years since it has achieved huge sales of over 25 million copies worldwide. 21 has outsold her first album 19 by more than three times and being No 1 in over 26 countries including the UK and US.
Before she hit the big time in America her companies last year’s accounts were only £340,000 ($510k).
This influx of cash has enabled her to buy her hard-working single mother Penny Adkins a flash new £600,000 ($900k) apartment in Notting Hill, West London. Her mother worked long and hard with two jobs to give Adele the support before she was famous.
Adele is due to perform her hit theme to the Skyfall movie as part of the 50th anniversary James Bond celebrations at the Oscars on 24th February 2013. She revealed that she is very nervous about the performance and decided that instead of staying in a hotel she would rent a place to keep away from the crowds.
And she’s picked a nice place to stay too. She is renting Sir Paul McCartney’s old LA mansion for £47,000 ($70k) a month as she rehearses for the Oscars. The ex-Beatles home should give her plenty of inspiration and it’s also hidden away up in the hill which guarantees her privacy.
Adele is known to suffer from nervousness at some large venues and has been seeking professional help to try and finally overcome her nerves before the Oscars. She has been rehearsing with a full orchestra but even with all the preparation this still wasn’t enough to keep calm, so she has been recommended to see a hypnotherapist.
When she’s in the UK Adele normally spends lives at her £7 million ($10.5m) 10 bedroom mansion in Sussex along with her fiancé Simon Koncki and her four-month-old son Angela James.
There’s plenty of space at her grade II listed mansion which comes with two swimming pools and is set in 25 acres of prime land in the west Sussex countryside. It also has a self-contained cottage for staff and tennis courts.
Before she bought her new mansion she paid off the mortgage on her £380,000 ($570k) flat in London’s Notting Hill which she’s had since 2009.
In July 2012 Forbes listed Adele at number six in the world’s highest-paid celebrities under 30 with reported earnings of £23 million ($35m) from May 2011 to may 2012.
It’s a big change from the flat above a discount store in West Norwood South London where she was brought up by her mother but something she’s worked hard for and duly deserves.
